On 22 May 2022, Venerable Pauline Jaricot, the founder of Missio’s Pontifical Society of the Propagation of the Faith and the Living Rosary, will be beatified.
Beatification is a stage towards the path to sainthood, which requires a miracle through the candidate’s intercession to be recognised by the Church. In Pauline’s case, a three-and-a-half-year-old girl from Lyon named Mayline could not be resuscitated after chocking and suffocation. She was pronounced by doctors as brain dead and would die in the next few weeks. Pupils and parents of Mayline’s school, then, asked for Pauline Jaricot’s intercession by praying a novena for Mayline’s recovery, whilst Mayline lay in coma as her parents began looking for a child-sized coffin. During a diocesan enquiry occurred in 2019, a medical board validated the miracle of healing, and the theological commission certified the intervention of Pauline Jaricot in the full recovery of little Mayline.
“As a laywoman committed to supporting the missionary activities of the church, [Pauline Jarikot] reminds us that holiness is not confined to those in holy orders or members of religious congregations,” said Father Brian Lucas, National Director of Catholic Mission.
